2018 Half Dry Riesling RS15 $35


This Single Vineyard Half Dry Riesling was handpicked in the early morning from the bottom half of our Riesling block and whole bunch pressed. Fermentation was cool and slow, with the ferment being stopped at 15 grams residual sugar. The wine was left in tank on lees for a further 4 months, stirring occasionally for further palate texture.

This wine has some great potential for many reasons. It was very floral and fragrant during ferment, and has finished up very nicely. We left a touch more residual sugar than normal in this vintage, to ensure it stays within the half-dry category. Once again showing those great lemon/lime citrus characters, with a nice pop of fruit which is balanced out nicely by the crisp, clean acidity.

94/100  Jacob Stein is producing some exceptional resiling, with the half dry style one that is hard to get right; but is nailed on this occasion. The nose enjoys concentrated notes of jasmine, mandarin zest and fresh limes against a backdrop of slate. The decision to leave 15g residual sugar has created a wine that has a mere suggestion of sweetness when contrasted with the energetic swathes of acidity that defines it. Lime dominates with some candied apple like characters from residual sugar on the mid palate, with the interplay of acid and fruit giving a chalky and mineral character to finish.”  The Wine Reviewer, Oct 2018

“It has a delicious citrusy aroma with a fine honeysuckle/floral touch. The 15 grams residual is evident but gee it seems so balanced even at this early stage of assessment. Very inviting too I might add. Limes mainly on the palate but lemons are present as well. Combine this with a delicate texture and palate weight and you have “moreishness”… It may well have been a combination of both. 18.25/20   Almost water clear with a pale gold/green hue. Perfumed and inviting nose. Hints of lavender and musk over lime cordial and smoky green matcha tea and citrus blossom. Precision on the palate, carries all the delicate, elegance crystalline minerality of a dry riesling, yet the palate beautifully weighted.
